Elizabeth Johnson, Harpist

About Me
I’m a professional harpist who loves to tell a story to my audience through the music I perform and the atmosphere I create.
As a young child, I was exposed to a variety of different genres including Celtic folk dances and songs, traditional church hymns, and the standard classical works from different periods. As I got older, I discovered my love of performing and I realized that I wanted to pursue music as my career. This journey has been long and winding, but it has taken me to so many incredible places like Interlochen Arts Academy, Oberlin Conservatory and other places during my educational years.
During my time at Oberlin, I’ve had the honor of performing with the Oberlin Orchestra in Carnegie Hall along with performing an concert orchestra production of the Pulitzer-Prize winning opera Omar at the Maltz Center in Cleveland. I’ve also had the opportunity to participate in a variety of other productions including being in the pit orchestras for Candide and Albert Herring.
I am also a budding music theorist with a minor in Music Theory as well as a minor in History. Both of these academic pursuits have a large impact of my music making and how I approach the creative and artistic process. Along with that, I also teach a small studio of secondary harp students at Oberlin.
In my spare time, I am a voracious book reader, plant mom, and amateur seamstress and crocheter. All of these other passions provide other creative outlets and give me a dose of imagination and creativity that originates outside of music which then informs how I play.
